Sclerotherapy
In the past, treating damaged veins used to require intensive surgical procedures, but now, we can resolve many cases of leg veins with a minimally invasive treatment called sclerotherapy. Harpe Laser & Wellness, provides sclerotherapy to Asheville patients who want to address prominent veins and restore clear skin.
What Is Sclerotherapy?
Varicose veins and spider veins are common venous conditions that can disrupt our appearance and reduce our quality of life. Patients with these venous conditions may feel self-conscious about the appearance of the damaged veins, and it is not uncommon for varicose veins to also cause physical discomfort.
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical treatment for varicose veins and spider veins. It is often the preferred method for providing aesthetic improvements and alleviating the physical symptoms associated with these veins.
Sclerotherapy shrinks swollen veins and minimizes or eliminates discoloration caused by pooled blood in the damaged veins. This procedure also restores healthier blood circulation and provides relief from the discomfort that often accompanies damaged veins.
Am I a Candidate for Sclerotherapy?
A consultation with a qualified medical professional is needed to determine your candidacy for sclerotherapy. A consultation will assess the damaged veins you want to treat.
Ideal candidates for sclerotherapy:
- Are in good physical health
- Do not have a history of blood clots
- Are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have realistic expectations for their sclerotherapy results
- Are seeking treatment of spider veins and/or smaller varicose veins
How Does Sclerotherapy Work?
Sclerotherapy Aftercare
Sclerotherapy requires minimal downtime. In most cases, patients can resume the majority of their normal activities right after treatment.
You will be provided with personalized recovery guidelines based on your specific sclerotherapy procedure. It is important to follow the instructions in order to promote healing and ensure maximum improvements.
Strenuous activities such as high-intensity cardio and weightlifting should be avoided for 48 hours, or as directed by your provider. In the initial days after your sclerotherapy treatment, saunas, swimming pools, hot baths, tanning beds, and sunlight should also be avoided.
Depending on the venous condition treated and the location of the treated veins, your provider may instruct you to wear compression garments during your recovery. Compression socks are typically recommended when sclerotherapy is performed to treat varicose veins affecting the legs and feet.
Sclerotherapy Results
Sclerotherapy is a proven method of treating broken veins. Most patients experience significant improvements, though results can vary based on the size of the damaged veins.
Spider veins and smaller varicose veins may be completely eliminated with a series of sclerotherapy treatments. Larger varicose veins may or may not disappear completely, but most patients benefit from noticeable improvements and a reduction in varicose-vein-related discomfort.
How Much Does Sclerotherapy Cost?
The price of sclerotherapy is based on the size and location of the veins you want to treat. The overall cost of vein treatment with sclerotherapy will also be affected by the number of treatment sessions needed to achieve your desired outcome.
