5 Tips For Starting The New Year Right in 2022
If we learned anything in 2021, it is to appreciate our health and not take it for granted. 2022 can be a renewed focus on your own lifestyle and priorities. New Year’s resolutions are the perfect opportunity for all those who have failed to start making the changes that they said they would make next week, next month, or perhaps when winter started.
It is not selfish to make yourself a priority. Self-care is holistic, much more than simply exercising more or losing weight. Most of us feel best when we are eating well, getting enough sleep, taking time for joy, participating in social activities, and taking care of our bodies. Self-care is very individualized, so take the time to reflect on the health habits that provided joy combined with a healthier you last year. Now, plan these activities to begin right now! Each little activity can move you in a positive direction.
Most of us can agree that what we focus our thoughts on becomes our reality. If we focus on the positive in our lives and what we are grateful for, our perspective changes from one of “lacking” to one of “contentment”. When challenges and problems arise, focus on solutions rather than the problem! This is the way to stay positive and opens a higher level of thinking that can generate new ideas.
Eat Like Your Life Depends On It
One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to increase the nutritional content of your meals. If we drop nutritionally deficient foods like refined grains, sugar laden drinks and highly processed foods and swap those out for larger amounts of nutritionally dense foods like vegetables, fruits, quality meats and fats throughout our day, we are making a huge change for the better in our health. Your life is made of what you eat!
Nature is Nurture! We need the great outdoors to destress and to get healthy levels of Vitamin D. Being in nature has proven to lower stress levels, increase immunity and increase overall mood! We can all use that this year. Of course, be responsible with your sun intake. Generally, 15 – 20 min a day is what you need for healthy Vitamin D production. Be sure to use your sunblock responsibly.
Connect With Your Tribe
These last couple of years have made many of us more isolated. The healthiest, happiest and longest-lived populations in the world, in the “Blue Zones”, all share one thing – a tribe to belong to. Having a group to share our lives with is not only fun, but also vital to a healthy life!
